April 7, 2018 Saturday School Edition

1. I got up on a Saturday morning to make sure my kids got what they needed to succeed. I did receive pay but it was for hourly rater when it should have been more like overtime because it was extra but...just know that is a thing that teachers do and again are not properly compensated for it. 

1a. I understand teachers that are not willing to give up their Saturday because of self-care and such I get it. That's understandable. However, when you use that excuse but I can tell by your tone that it's something else...it just shows me that you're not a team player. Somebody has to do it and if your hard no is always there you need to find a way to contribute instead of shifting the work to someone else while you are relaxing.

2. I have thoughts about the kids that didn't come and the reasons they told me they couldn't when they really needed to but that's a bit negative so I'll keep it positive because I was happy to see the kids that came.

3. There is a thing that teachers know...the bad kids never miss a day. Even Saturdays. Like we purposely did not invite them and they STILL came. At least they were tame.

4. Who knew fire alarms occurred on Saturdays too?

5. Nobody can ever call me impatient. Captain Oblivious...
a.Room is not prepped for testing
b. Calculators are not turned in, the memory isn't cleared and batteries need to be changed
c. Asked yesterday if interventions were occurring on today ( his message was ignored by another fed up individual...but I mean we have been talking about it for two months. And you only think to ask the day before?)
d. He then texts me at 7:45 asking if they are occurring, the time they start and that he is running late.
e. Then tells me that he almost didn't come and was going to text me that AND that his wife was like no sleep you need to rest. First, nobody told you to come anyways! Second, rest? Does Felicia ( I don't know her name barely knew she existed, ring missing and as much as he's always with that one teach.....excuse me!) know what you do at work? NOT A DAMN thing! Rest for work. Yes ma'am he may be here for 12 hours everyday but he is the most well rested teacher at the school trust me! Subs are more exhausted than him.
f. He didn't volunteer himself to come when we asked months ago which forced me to come and shows up anyways. I made the interventions then my partner got the activities for today together and here he is doing not a damn thing and just going to show up. I know my Teacher Observations are multicultural so I won't go there but lazy could be interchanged with a lot of words...If there was a definition of lazy* in the dictionary he would be in it.

February 6, 2019 1. A/C Update: The fan is busted. It is from 1995. I was in kindergarten. The district is trying to find the company and manufacturer to replace parts. They are currently diverting air from the other fan to our hallway. If that doesn't work we will be out of our classrooms for a week. 1a. The first time I'm glad my room has no windows. Luckily it will be cooler then freezing for the rest of the week. I hope it doesn't affect the heat...although I do enjoy a  good room temperature building instead of HELL degrees. 2. Two fights in the morning. One at breakfast. The other in 1st period. Who wakes up wanting to fight? 2a. I was luckily not a witness to either of these altercations. I would have kept on brand and not broken it up. Just screamed for help. 2b. Today was...a wild one... 1. Kids were caught vaping and a young drug dealer was almost apprehended. I swear they are like Carmen San Diego. You have them and then you don't. 2. The Superintendent came into my classroom during the last period...last 20 minutes. I had been forewarned about this but still... 2a. My kids were doing what they were supposed to...for the most part. 2b. Of course he spoke with the worst possible student...BUT THEY HELD IT DOWN THOUGH! 2c. He was pleased and that is really all that matters. 3. Education is real wasteful if you think about it. We never truly stay with any one thing long enough to get what we need from it. It's like 'oh you're not using it, so we're (THE MAN) is going to take it away." When really it takes time to incorporate a new system into your curriculum. 1. Ya'll the A/C is out in my entire hallway. Texas is not experiencing the polar vertex and it is particularly balmy. Pray that we all make it during this trying time. 1a. I always tell the kids to tell their parents about these issues so they can complain. Do they? NOPE! But as soon as they take something out of context here comes mom with with all the emails and phone calls. 1b. Hell, I should get my mama to call! 2. My students have an odd issue with attention and personal space. When I was in school I left my teachers alone. Beyond the general curiosity, gossip and the fact that people lived next to my teachers, had siblings that could tell you stories AND we would go as groups to our teachers houses....anywho...I really didn't care enough but these kids? Parents love on your children! 2a. They have to say hi, every time you see them. If you tell them to leave you alone, the more they try to get in your space. 2b. You tell them not to touch you. They try to hug...
